Pie Baking Competition Brings Great Crowds!
Mother & Daughter Take 1st Place in Each Category!
Grace Thompson took 1st Place in the Fruit Pie Category for her Mountain Berry Pie while her mother Amanda Thompson took 1st Place in the Bakers Choice Category for her Lavender Lemon Meringue Pie. 17 pies were judged by four professionals behind closed doors without any knowledge of who the bakers were. Each pie was assigned a number and only event coordinator Joele Pinkerton knew which number belonged to which baker.
The bakers baked additional pies for the People's Choice Competition which was held in Fezziwig's Carriage House and Courtyard as a fund raiser for the O'Fallon Food Pantry. Customers paid $5 to have the opportunity to taste the baker's entered pies. Originally there were 20 entrants but three dropped out the last week of the competition. Voting tickets were sold for 25 cents each so customers could vote for their favorite pies. Tasting fees and voting ticket sales will be donated to the O'Fallon Food Pantry. $924.75 was raised and Fezziwig's will donate the additional $75.25 to make the donation and even $1,000. Jami Bossart was voted the People's Choice Award winner. Grace Thompson also won the award for Most Creative Pie and Judy Winkeler also won the award for Best Crust.
Overall $625 in Fezziwig's Gift Certificates were awarded from Fezziwig's along with numerous baking items from Fezziwig's and co-sponsor Mason Cash of England. Mason Cash has been making exceptional baking tools since 1800.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to make the wonderful pies, our judges, our Fezziwig's associates and all of our customers, new and old who came out and supported this fun event. Most everyone was asking if we would be doing it again, and Fezziwig's owner, Tim Moore, promised this would be an annual event.
